Challenge: A large, multinational Aerospace firm contracted with NBI to furnish 40,000 square feet of office space in Southern California in 2017. They wanted a modern, yet warm and wood-oriented environment that would appeal to baby boomers as well as millennials.
COMFORT & STYLE
We worked closely with our client on an overall work environment theme, incorporating the selection of colors, fabrics and finishes to create the look and feel they envisioned
We interviewed our client’s managers, agents and supervisors to get as much input as possible before designing the station. Once we had our surveys completed, we began the design of the optimal station.
We presented multiple design scenarios with various vignettes of office styles, and toured several facilities with our client to allow them to see the varied types of furniture in actual working environments. Many levels of management were required for the buy-in, and several presentations were made as revisions required. A perfect decision was made that actually satisfied all parties, to their pleasant surprise!
Our design team worked closely with our manufacturing partner, using our combined industry experience with our other clientele to determine not only what had worked best in the past, but what would work well in the future.

Our installers actually make the product, and our clients like the fact that we can actually fly our crew out to install in areas outside of Southern California. Being in business for over 36 years has allowed us to establish relationships with dozens of installation partners, and we have the entire country covered!
NBI worked closely with the Facilities Department over several months to design several options, utilizing various design elements and color schemes to reach a comfort level of forward-looking design. Current design trends were viewed also by upper management to see if any of them were applicable. NBI was able to assist in exposing their client to ideas that had not traditionally been applied to aerospace firms. The resulting design allowed a more collaborative environment within the administrative and management departments, with a more inclusive feel.
Office design evolves as technology advances, and flexibility is required to accommodate change.
Sit/stand adjustable height work surfaces need to be accommodated, so we utilized desk-top devices as an option where required. Historically, elevating the station height so as to allow overhead storage and make use of the leased cubic foot was the norm, but currently the trend is toward collaboration with lower panel heights
Our designers produced several options, and we presented them to our client. We made some revisions, and once a decision was made, we constructed a mock-up in our factory for the decision-makers to inspect and occupy for their approval
The other key factor in associates’ comfort and productivity is the chair they sit in. We proposed several options in different price ranges, and brought out chair samples for them to use in their actual work environment. Worker safety and comfort is always uppermost in our planning and implementation, and the elimination of any worker comp claims is our watchword. Any chair we recommend must have a wide and sturdy enough base to avoid tipping; the main cause of claims.
With our local factory, we have complete control over the design and manufacture process. Nothing is left to chance, and nothing is made outside of our purview.
